Description (in English)
"Debuted at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, The Coded Gaze mini documentary follows Poet of Code Joy Buolamwini's personal frustrations with facial recognition software and the need for more inclusive code." (1)
In Coded Gaze Buolamwini is not detected by the face detection software before she wears a white mask. This is because training sets lack in diversity and therefore do not detect faces with darker skin tones. When developers use trained models in software packages the bias in the training sets propagate and so many application work better for light skin tones discriminating those with darker skin tones. Boulamwini advocates for this to be acknowledge and calls for more inclusive designs.
